Logo Design Process For Cosmos Transport

Cosmos Transport Logo

I’ve recently completed a logo design for a logistics company named Cosmos Transport. This is my first blog entry explaining my logo design process. I hope it may provide you insight on what it takes to come to the final logo you see above.

The first thing I like doing after receiving a brief is to look into the meaning of the company name. For Cosmos, I found that the name meant harmony, completeness and order. Then I started to associate it with things of a logistics company such as speed etc. Next I start my sketches, which I find to be one of the most difficult tasks in the process. I believe this is due to my poor ability to draw and the intimidation of a blank page. Take a look at my sketches below. The one in the red circle is the one that ultimately ended up being the idea for the final logo.

The next step after the sketches is to open up Illustrator and start the digital design process. After a long time playing with the ideas in my sketches, I take a break and let everything sink in. This may be for a day or two. When I return I come back with a newly inspired mindset. In this case I got rid of the other concepts and narrowed it down to the three pictured below. These were the concepts presented to the client, and the one circled in red is the chosen one.

I like to put the concepts on backgrounds, as it helps to visualize them as they would be applied.

The next step for me is to explore the typographical options. Pictured below you will see nine different combinations of typography. The one circled in red is the chosen combination.

The final step is my favorite, it is choosing a color combination. Based on the brief given to me I selected the color combinations pictured below. The chosen combination is circled in red.

The after the colors were chosen, we had a final logo. The process took about 2 weeks, from the brief to completion of the logo. The final logo is pictured below.

To conclude, this company identity project has been a wonderful experience due to the client I was working with. I say this because they came to understand the design process very well, and always provided me with good honest feedback as well. In fact, things have gone so well with the people at Cosmos Transport that I am currently working on a website design with them.

But that’s a subject for another post.
